Achieve a Better Proportioned Bust Line
Overly large breasts can cause a woman a number of complications. They can spur neck, shoulder, and back pain. They can cause painful bra strap indentations in the skin. Perhaps the most adverse effect is the self-consciousness and decreased self-esteem women often experience as a result of having disproportionately large breasts. Women seeking relief from overly large breasts can benefit from a breast reduction performed at our Scottsdale, Arizona office. Dr. Steven Wiener can surgically reduce and reshape your bust line to achieve beautiful, natural-looking results that better complement your figure. The Breast Reduction Procedure
Before your surgery is scheduled, you and Dr. Wiener will discuss the breast size and contour you want to achieve. He will choose the techniques employed during your surgery based on your goals. The surgery itself is performed under general anesthesia to ensure your comfort. Most commonly, an incision is made around the areola and down the center of the breast. The nipple usually remains attached to the breast, but during surgeries in which a significant amount of reduction is needed, the nipple may be removed and subsequently reattached in a higher position. Once the incisions are made, the surgeon can remove excess fatty tissue, breast tissue, and skin. Finally, the incisions are closed with sutures, resulting in breasts that are smaller, yet with an attractive new shape.
After Breast Reduction Surgery
Immediately after surgery, the incisions will be covered with bandages, and possibly a special support bra to help minimize swelling during the healing process. Dr. Wiener may temporarily apply a small, thin plastic tube under the skin to drain excess blood or fluid. The duration of your recovery will depend upon the extent of your treatment. Over the first few weeks, bruising, pain, and swelling will subside. After several months, the scars will lighten and become less apparent.
The effects of breast reduction are long-lasting, but not permanent. You can expect that your breasts will eventually begin to sag again because of gravity and the natural aging process, but you can prolong the renewed contour of your breasts by adopting a healthy lifestyle that allows you to maintain your weight.
Risks of Breast Reduction Surgery
A breast lift can yield a multitude of benefits when performed by a qualified surgeon. However, as with any surgical procedure, there is a risk of complication you should be aware of before deciding to undergo a breast lift. These risks include unfavorable scarring, infection, and breast asymmetry.
